Jeff Mostyn, the former Chairman of AFC Bournemouth and a renowned motivational speaker, has authored his recent published book 'The Chairman', which has been shortlisted for the 2026 ‘Football Book of the Year’ at the prestigious Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards in association with the Sunday Times.
Jeff is known for his authentic and engaging speaking style that ensures every audience member feels valued. His leadership is characterised by his ability to connect personally with people.

His now-legendary response, known as the "Famous Nod," ultimately saved the club from extinction, leading to a remarkable rise from the brink of collapse to the heights of the Premier League.
In addition to his work with AFC Bournemouth, Jeff has held several key positions within the FA Council, where his current involvement with the FA Disability Committee showcases his lifelong commitment to inclusivity and diversity in football. In recognition of his leadership, Jeff was awarded a Fellowship of the FA Council in 2021 and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration from Bournemouth University.
Beyond his contributions on the pitch, Jeff is a dedicated philanthropist, proudly serving as a Patron for the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation and acting as an Ambassador for both Julia’s House Children’s Hospice and Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

On TalkSport: Former Bournemouth chairman, Jeff Mostyn, joins Jim White, Alex Crook and Steve Bruce to discuss his career and the growth of the club
Jeff Mostyn shares how he saved AFC Bournemouth from collapse, risking his own money and facing death threats to keep the club alive. From financial ruin to Premier League success, it’s a story of loyalty, belief and refusing to give up.
“Nice guys don’t win.” Jeff Mostyn proves that belief completely wrong…in style! In a world that often celebrates ego over empathy, Jeff quietly defies the narrative. Jeff is genuinely one of the nicest people I know - as well as being one of the most effective leaders I’ve ever been around.
The rise of AFC Bournemouth from the depths of despair in 2006 to the glorified heights of the English Premier League is one of sports greatest ever achievements. It was once described as a Hans Christian Anderson fairy story that somehow came to life.

In Part 2 of our candid chat with Jeff Mostyn, the former chairman reveals how a humiliating FA Cup exit at the hands of Blyth Spartans was a sliding doors moment that perversely paved the way for AFC Bournemouth's future success.
Former AFC Bournemouth Chairman JEFF MOSTYN tells the inside story of one of modern football's most improbable arcs — from minus seventeen points and £1m+ in undisclosed debt, to "The Nod" that saved the club live on air, to the Premier League and the brink of the Champions League. Jeff served as Chairman of AFC Bournemouth for seventeen of his twenty years at the club. Before football he spent twenty years advising the British Army — the source of the core values he later brought into the boardroom.
He took the chair in 2007 with the club facing extinction, appointed a young Eddie Howe because no experienced manager would touch them, and built a "two dressing rooms, one heartbeat" structure that survived owner changes and generations of players. He stepped down in 2023 and is the author of The Chairman.
